Accra: Morocco's leadership in road safety at both regional and international levels is attributed to the Enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who has prioritized the protection of life and the enhancement of road safety. This was highlighted by Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh during his address at the General Assembly's High-Level Meeting on Improving Road Safety in New York.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Kayouh emphasized that the King's vision has solidified Morocco's status as a significant international player and a reliable partner in road safety. The Kingdom has formulated an Integrated National Strategy for 2030, aligned with the Global Road Safety Plan, which focuses on good governance, law enforcement, infrastructure development, education, training, and the integration of modern technologies like artificial intelligence and innovation.

Kayouh also noted Morocco's role as the host of the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in February 2025 in Marrakesh. This event was a pivotal moment in rallying the international community, resulting in the Marrakech Declaration, which aims to hasten the execution of global commitments on road safety.

The conference also saw the launch of the Mohammed VI International Road Safety Award, embodying the Royal Vision to promote innovation, best practices, and international cooperation to save lives. The recent General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Road Safety concluded with the adoption of the Progress Declaration, a significant milestone that incorporates amendments proposed by Morocco, including the integration of the Marrakesh Declaration and commendations for the Royal initiative.

The event was attended by notable figures such as Morocco's UN Permanent Representative, Ambassador Omar Hilale, and Director of the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) Benacer Boulaajoul, further signifying Morocco's commitment to road safety. Initiated by the Presidency of the UN General Assembly and the World Health Organization (WHO), the meeting focused on the theme "Scaling up and accelerating implementation of commitments to halving road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030."
