Kericho Invests Sh2.3 Billion to Transform Litein into Commercial Hub

Kericho: Kericho County is embarking on a major transformation agenda for Litein town, with plans to inject over Sh2.3 billion into critical infrastructure aimed at unlocking its potential as a commercial hub. The strategic investment comes as private sector players such as Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM) expand operations in the region, signalling renewed confidence in Litein’s economic future.

According to Kenya News Agency, Kericho County CEC for Trade, Industrialisation, Innovation, Wildlife, and Tourism John Cheruiyot, speaking during the official opening of MRM’s 26th showroom, stated that the multi-billion-shilling investment, funded through the Office of the Governor, is part of a deliberate push to transform Litein into an investment-ready town with reliable public utilities. Cheruiyot highlighted the county’s focus on making Litein a modern, investment-ready town by fast-tracking approvals and decentralising essential services such as water and permitting to create a conducive environment for investors.

In an interview with KNA, Cheruiyot noted that Litein is entering a critical phase of transformation, with the county strategically channelling resources to align the town’s growth with both investor demands and community aspirations. He emphasised the commitment to positioning Litein as a modern, investment-ready hub by accelerating development approvals and decentralising essential services. The aim is to foster investor confidence and long-term economic growth, supported by the county’s active collaboration with international development agencies, including the World Bank, to deliver transformative results for Litein.

Cheruiyot also noted that comprehensive urban renewal programmes are being rolled out to tackle sanitation and drainage issues affecting both residential and commercial zones. The planned sewerage and drainage systems are part of a long-term urban development strategy aimed at making Litein an attractive destination for serious investors. The county government has pledged to sustain infrastructure development and streamline approval processes to encourage greater private sector involvement.

With strategic partnerships like those with Mabati Rolling Mills and ongoing support from international agencies, Litein is rapidly emerging as a model for inclusive, investment-driven growth in Kericho County-a town where public ambition and private enterprise are forging a transformative future.
