CEMGA visit to Uganda: towards the realization of a common will between the two countries.

At the invitation of Army General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, Chief of Staff of the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces, the Chief of the General Staff of the Malian Armies, Major General Oumar Diarra at the head of a strong high-level delegation has just paid a working visit to Uganda from 4 to 9 February 2023.

The visit of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mali follows that carried out from October 04 to 10, 2022 in Uganda, by Colonel Sadio Camara, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs. This visit by the Malian minister was sanctioned by the signing, on October 7, 2022, of a Memorandum of Understanding on military cooperation between the two countries. The present visit of Major General Oumar Diarra and his delegation was therefore part of the implementation of this memorandum.

During his stay, Major General Oumar Diarra and his delegation were received by his Ugandan counterpart and during this meeting, the two parties reviewed and confirmed the points of cooperation recorded in the memorandum. They also participated in the festivities of the 42nd anniversary of “TAHERE SITA”, the national holiday of the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces in Mbarara. The President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who presided over the said ceremony, kindly exchanged with the Malian delegation like all the other delegations invited for the celebration. The Malian delegation also met the hierarchy of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the governing body of the industry of the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces and visited several facilities and workshops of the NEC.

The immediate fallout from this visit led to the very forthcoming establishment of the joint committee to monitor the activities of the memorandum, the implementation of the training project for 20 active cadets by the Ugandan side as well as the training project for anti-military forces. – terrorists.

This visit of Major General Oumar Diarra and his delegation, all in all very fruitful, comes to concretize that of Colonel Sadio Camara, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs and with good prospects.
