Dr. Akinwumi Adesina Highlights Role of Public Finance and Governance at Kenya Law Society Conference

Nairobi: Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, delivered a keynote address at the 2025 Kenya Law Society Conference, focusing on the critical interplay between public finance, governance, justice, and development. In his address, Dr. Adesina emphasized the importance of the judiciary as the protector of society’s constitutional values and legal integrity.

Highlighting the importance of governance over natural resources, Dr. Adesina cited successful examples from countries like Norway and Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that governance, transparency, and accountability are key to transforming natural resource wealth into prosperity. Dr. Adesina urged African countries to involve communities in resource management and ensure multinational corporations adhere to environmental accountability.

Addressing the issue of public debt, Dr. Adesina highlighted the challenges posed by the shift towards commercial creditors and vulture funds exploiting legal loopholes.
