Bamako: COMSTECH and the African Centre of Excellence have collaboratively organized a workshop in Mali, focusing on bioinformatics to analyze genomic data for genetic and infectious diseases. The event, which took place in a hybrid format, aimed to strengthen the capacity of public health professionals, doctoral students, clinicians, and molecular biologists in the field of genomic data analysis and interpretation.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the workshop addressed a significant gap in specialized training programs within many OIC member states, where the field of genomic data analysis is still developing. The initiative sought to enhance the participants’ skills in genomic research, thereby supporting efforts to tackle genetic and infectious diseases more effectively.
The opening ceremony was led by Professor Mahamadou Diakite, President of the University of Science, Technology and Technology of Bamako (USTTB). Professor Diakite acknowledged COMSTECH’s contributions to advancing scientific knowledge and capacity building in Mali and the broader West African region.
Approximately 150 participants from various academic and professional backgrounds attended the event, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of bioinformatics skills. This initiative is expected to significantly boost genomic research capabilities across West Africa, promoting better understanding and management of diseases through advanced data analysis techniques.
