Algerian President Offers Mediation in Mali Conflict

Algiers: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has expressed his willingness to mediate between Malian authorities and rebel Tuareg forces, emphasizing that his intervention would only occur upon an official request from Mali.

According to Nam News Network, the Malian government, led by a military junta, has been engaged in conflict with the Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA), a coalition of Tuareg and Arab nationalist groups, since 2023. The hostilities escalated after Mali withdrew from a peace agreement facilitated by Algeria the previous year, a decision that followed clashes involving government forces and Russian Africa Corps mercenaries, previously identified as Wagner.

In his address to the national press, President Tebboune underscored Algeria’s stance against the presence of mercenaries along its 1,400 km border with Mali. Despite Algeria’s historical ties with Russia, Tebboune made it clear that his country would not tolerate the involvement of such forces in the region.
